The one city where we know the space in advance

Having written a page for every district in the Tel Aviv metro area, Modiin stands out for one thing: it is predictable. The whole city was built from the mid-1990s onwards to a single plan, so the spaces resemble each other.

In central Tel Aviv we have no idea whether we are coming to a 1930s flat with no lift or to a boutique hotel. In Modiin we almost always know: a four or five-room flat in a building from the last decade or two, an open-plan living room, a shelter room, a sun balcony, underground parking. That sounds dull and it is actually an advantage — fewer things can go wrong on the night.

The road: Route 443 against Route 1

The most practical detail on this page. Modiin sits between Tel Aviv and Jerusalem, and there are two entirely different ways to reach it.

In ordinary evening hours the drive takes fifty to sixty minutes. In peak traffic, particularly Sunday morning and Thursday afternoon, the difference between the two routes can reach twenty minutes. We are not asking you to choose a route, that is our job — but it is worth knowing that anyone’s estimate of “an hour from Tel Aviv” only holds for part of the day.

What we do ask for is the neighbourhood. Maccabim and Reut sit at one end of the city, Buchman and Nofim at the other, with several kilometres in between. It changes the arrival time we commit to.

Real insulation, and for once that is not the topic

Every other page on this site has a paragraph about neighbours, thin walls and floors that carry footsteps. Here it is nearly redundant.

The construction is recent, the standards are stricter than those of the 1960s, and the walls between flats are substantially thicker. In practice, music at moderate volume in a seventy-square-metre living room barely leaves the flat. That is a freedom we do not have in the Old North or in Neve Tzedek.

What stays true is the audience. Twelve people cheering at once carry in any building in the world, new ones included. One sentence to the group before you start solves it.

Parking and space

Modiin was planned around cars and it shows. Nearly every building has underground parking, and there are spaces on the street in the evening too. Your guests will not lose twenty minutes hunting, and that alone changes the mood of whoever arrives last.

If you have access to the car park it is also the most discreet route: the dancer steps out of the car below and goes up in the lift without passing the lobby at all. All we need is a gate code or someone to come down, and a floor number.

No nightlife, and why that works in your favour

Modiin has no bar strip, no clubs and no hotels. In other cities that would be a drawback; here it changes the evening for the better.

When there is nowhere to move on to, the evening is planned and happens in one place. The group does not split between the people already heading to the next venue and the people staying, and nobody is trying to squeeze a show between two stops. That is exactly the condition in which a live show works best.

The practical side: there is no point planning on “we’ll see how it goes”. Agree an hour, clear the living room, done. Anyone who wants to continue afterwards drives to Tel Aviv, and that is a different evening.

Houses in Maccabim and Reut against flats in the city

Two worlds inside one municipality.

Maccabim and Reut are mostly private houses with gardens. The consideration there is horizontal: the fence, the yard and an open window. You can run a little louder than in a flat, provided the show is indoors. If you want it outside you need a hard surface about two metres by two — grass does not work, heels sink into it.

The flat neighbourhoods in the city itself give large open living rooms, which is exactly what a show wants. Clearing one table and rolling up a rug is enough. The full checklist is on the home booking page.

What people book here

Bachelor parties first, usually in a private house or a large flat. Then birthdays, many of them from about thirty-five upwards with guests arriving in couples.

Company events are rare here; there are no office towers in the city. Anyone looking for that format books to Petah Tikva or to the Bnei Brak office strip. The hotel format does not exist here at all — for that people drive to Tel Aviv or pick a cabin.

Because of the distance it is worth booking a day ahead, and two days at a weekend. A booking for an hour from now barely works at this radius.

Styles

A large living room and good insulation open up what suffocates in a small flat: club sets, go-go and latino with the wide movement they need. Pole is possible in a private house where one has been installed.

For the older audience that is common in this city, burlesque and pin-up work well. Two dancers who hold a large room are Maya Breeze and Rivka Stone, and the full catalogue with styles is worth going through before you confirm.

Arrival and price

Fifty to sixty minutes for most of the evening. Peak traffic stretches it and after ten at night it shortens. We give a real window rather than a number that sounds good.

The price is the same as central Tel Aviv: 800 shekels solo, 1,400 duo, 2,200 for the VIP format, including travel, costume and music. There is no distance surcharge for Modiin.
