One road, two entirely different cities

Modiin and Jerusalem sit on the same axis, half an hour apart, and as bookings they are two different worlds.

Modiin is inside the standard band: forty-five to fifty-five minutes from the centre of the country, no travel surcharge, and midweek you can close the same day.

Jerusalem is not: an hour to an hour and a half, a travel supplement quoted over messages before anything is confirmed, and one to two days’ notice.

If your plan is flexible, that is the difference worth knowing before you decide where to hold the evening.

What they share: the road

Both are reached by Route 1, and it is the only road on our list where weather changes the timing.

In winter, the climb in rain or fog easily adds twenty minutes and sometimes more. On days like that we leave with a wider margin and keep you updated. If your hour is critical, set it earlier rather than later.

In summer the road is fast and predictable, and after nine in the evening it is almost empty. That is also why we suggest relatively late hours here: they suit both sides.

Modiin: the city you can predict

Modiin was built entirely from the mid-nineties to a single plan, which is a rare advantage from our side.

The buildings are new, the insulation between flats is real, there are car parks and lifts, and the living rooms are large. When someone writes “Modiin, third floor”, we already know what is waiting — and that is true of almost no other city on the list.

So the whole catalogue is open: a club set and go-go both fit, and a duo does not crowd the room.

One caveat: the city is quiet and family-oriented, and neighbours notice noise after ten. Our usual rule here — the loud part early and the quiet part at the end.

Jerusalem: a hotel, not a living room

In Jerusalem two thirds of the bookings are a hotel room or a short-let flat rather than a private home. That is the reverse of Modiin and it changes everything.

The logistics are stricter: a busy lobby, sometimes a key card for the lift, and always someone at reception. What we ask for — the room number at the confirmation stage, someone who knows she is on the way, and no asking reception to pass anything on. More on the hotel booking page.

In a standard room of three metres by four, lap dance, fashion and pin-up are what work. A club set will be heard in the corridor, and there is one fix for that: a short-let flat instead of a suite.

Mevaseret, Maale Adumim and the towns around

Around Jerusalem there are towns that send occasional but steady enquiries: Mevaseret Zion, Maale Adumim, Efrat, Beit Shemesh.

Our answer there is yes in most cases, with a travel supplement quoted up front and one to two days’ notice. What matters: if the town is gated with a guard at the entrance, say so in your message and leave a name at the gate. Without that she stands at the barrier while you wait at home.

Houses in those towns usually have space and a yard, so the format there is closer to Modiin than to urban Jerusalem.

What hour, and what about winter

Both areas quieten early. In Modiin the streets are empty by half past ten, and in residential Jerusalem earlier still.

So the comfortable window here is between nine and eleven. After midnight is still possible, but mainly in a hotel — in a residential building every movement in the stairwell is audible.

And in winter it is worth remembering that Jerusalem is genuinely cold, indoors included. If the evening is in a flat with stone floors, put the heating on half an hour beforehand. In Modiin it matters less, because the building stock is new.
