The direction of the traffic, not the distance

Rosh HaAyin is twenty-five kilometres from Tel Aviv, and that is the least useful number on this page.

The drive here goes east, which is exactly the direction the whole of Gush Dan travels at the end of the working day. Between five and seven we are not going against the flow but inside it, and the journey can take an hour. After eight the same road takes twenty-five minutes.

The practical conclusion is simple: if you can, set the show for half past eight or later. It saves you waiting and us pressure, and it is the first thing we say here in every conversation.

Two towns under one name

East of the main road lies the old town: private houses, some from the state’s first years, narrow streets and yards. West of it is new Rosh HaAyin — quarters built from the middle of the 2000s, new buildings, underground parking and lifts.

The difference between them is entirely practical. In the new town the way in is discreet: down to the car park, up in the lift, past no shared lobby at all, and the booking can be spontaneous. In the old town it is a house with a gate and street parking, and someone has to come out to meet her.

So in your first message say which part rather than just “Rosh HaAyin”. It changes the arrival time too, because the new quarters are reached from the road much faster.

What gets booked here more than anywhere else

Rosh HaAyin is the city where an ethno set is asked for most, by a wide margin.

The town has a long-established Yemenite community and a strong tradition of family celebration and music, and in a room like that belly dance is not a foreign thing. People recognise the rhythm, they know how to respond, and there is none of the half-minute of awkwardness a first-time style produces.

The second most frequent choice is burlesque, mostly at milestone birthdays. Pole is rare here for the simple reason that almost nobody has a pole at home.

Rented villas around the park

Around Afek Park and along the eastern edge there are houses let by the night, and it is a format that has grown for us over the last two years.

From our side it is the easiest address in the city: a large space, plenty of parking, no attached neighbours, and you can start early and finish late. A duo fits there without crowding the room.

What to check with the owner: until what hour music is allowed, and whether there is a sound system or you need to bring a speaker. Some of these houses have a timer that cuts the outdoor power at midnight, which caught us out once.

Afek: the business side of town

The Afek complex and the employment zone beside it hold a fair number of companies, and some bookings come from there — usually the end of a project or a leaving do.

The difference from Petah Tikva is scale: these are smaller offices, with no guard at the entrance and no building management to clear it with. In practice that is simpler, but somebody has to stay with a key, because the buildings lock early.

For an event like that we almost always suggest fashion, for the same reason we suggest it for any company event: it puts nobody in an uncomfortable position.

Four details cut out the round of questions here: which part of town, the hour, how many of you, and whether it is a flat or a house. If it is a rented villa, say so and we will suggest a different format.

What is nearby

Rosh HaAyin borders Petah Tikva to the west and Hod HaSharon to the north-west, and by way of Route 6 it is not far from Modiin either. This is the eastern edge of the range we drive to without a surcharge.
